Dosa is a thin and crispy crepe made out of Rice (Chawal), Urad Dal (Lentils). It is served with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, peanut chutney and vegetable Sambhar. Dosa is very healthy and popular breakfast in South India and not only in South India; dosa is popular in all over India and in world too. Following is a very simple, easy and step-by-step recipe to make Dosa Batter at home:-

Ingredients

For Crispy Dosa

  • 1 cup Urad Dal
  • 1 cup Rice (Sona Masuri/Dosa Rice)
  • 1 cup Poha
  • ½ tsp Methi Seeds (Fenugreek Seeds)



Instructions

  • In a large bowl, soak rice and methi seeds for atleast 5 hours. Soak urad dal in a separate bowl for 4 hours
  • After 5 hours, drain the water from rice, methi seeds and transfer into a blender. Blend along with poha and add water if required
  • Drain the water from urad dal. Transfer it into a blender and blend to smooth and fluffy batter
  • Mix rice, methi seeds, poha and urad dal batter together and mix it well
  • Cover the batter and let it get ferment in a warm place for 8-12 hours
  • After 8-12 hours, you’ll notice that batter has raised well which indicates that its well fermented
  • Mix the batter slightly and add salt
  • Heat the dosa tawa or normal tawa and pour a ladleful of the batter on it and spread it in a thin circular motion
  • Spread little oil over it, cover the dosa for a minute and cook till bottom of dosa turns into a golden brown color

Now, fold it to make a roll and serve it with chutneys, sambhar and mashed masala potato.


Tips

  • Do not touch/disturb the batter during fermentation
  • In winters, you can preheat oven or microwave and place the batter in it
