Atta Halwa or Aate ka Halwa or Kada Prashad is an Indian pudding made with Ghee, wheat flour (aata), Sugar and Dry Fruits. It is served as Prashad in Gurudwaras’ and called kada prashad (कड़ा प्रशाद). To make it healthier, you can replace, sugar with brown sugar or gur. So, let’s start with the recipe and please follow step-by-step recipe to make delicious aate Ka Halwa (कड़ा प्रशाद or आटे का हलवा) at home:-

Ingredients

  • 1 cup/bowl Aata (Wheat Flour)
  • 1 cup/bowl Ghee (Clarified Butter)
  • ¾ cup of Sugar (as per taste)
  • 3 cups /bowl water (Hot)
  • 10-12 Almonds (roughly chopped – optional)

Instructions

  • On medium flame, heat ghee in a deep pan or kadai, add aata (wheat flour), roast it until aromatic and its color change to dark brown. Keep Stirring. This will take about 5 minutes
  • When halwa’s color change to dark brown, add sugar and mix well for a min.
  • Reduce flame to low and add boiled (hot) water slowly. Stir constantly to avoid any lump formation.
  • When you add all the water, turn the flame to medium and cook until all water gets absorbed and halwa starts to leave the sides of the pan or kadai
  • Turn off the flame, add almonds and mix well
  • Garnish the halwa with some almonds while serving and enjoy the hot “aate ka halwa”.

Tips & Notes

  • To save some time, you can boil water and sugar together to make chashni (sugar syrup)
  • Generally, there are no dry fruits are added in the kada prashad but you can add any dry fruits of your choice.
