Jeera Rice is very popular and easy to make variety of Rice which goes with any gravy vegetable or curry dish. Dal chawal, chole chawal, rajma chawal are very popular in the Northern part of India. Rice is mandatory dish in southern, western and eastern part of India, for example: – Curd Rice, Sambhar Rice, and Hyderabad Biryani. I always make Jeera Rice when we have guests at home because it can be made very quickly and it goes with any curry dish.

This is so simple to make, which can be made by any male member of your family or any bachelor. So let’s start and please follow step-by-step recipe to make easy and simple Jeera Rice (cumin rice) at home:-

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cup Basmati Rice
  • ½ tsp Jeera (Cumin Seeds)
  • 1 ½ cup Water
  • 2 Cloves (Laung)
  • 1 Bay Leaf (Tejpatta)
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly and soak into 2 cups of water for 1/2 hour
  2. After 1/2 hour strain all the water and keep the rice aside
  3. Heat the oil into pressure cooker, when oil is hot; add cumin seeds (jeera), cloves (laung) and bay leaf (tej patta). Keep stirring
  4. When cumin seeds (jeera) start cracking, add rice and 1 1/2 cups of water.
  5. Add Salt and mix it well. Put the pressure cooker lid on.
  6. Turn the flame to low after one whistle and Switch off the flame after 5 min.
  7. When the cooker pressure goes away, serve rice hot with dal, chole, rajma, Sambhar or any curry dish.

Tips

  • Rice should always be soaked for at least 1/2 hour as it speeds up the cooking
