Missi Roti (मिस्सी रोटी) is very popular Indian flatbread made with a combination of wheat flour, gram/chickpea flour and Indian spices. It is very popular in North India specifically in Punjab and Rajasthan. It is also served in Gurudwara’s langar. This “Missi Roti” recipe is extremely simple and easy to make as all the ingredients are mostly available in everyone’s home. Please follow the following recipe step by step to make tasty Missi Roti at home: –

Ingredients

  • 3 Cups Wheat Flour
  • 1 Cup Besan (Gram/Chickpea Flour)
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric
  • Pinch of Asafoetida (Hing)
  • ¼ tsp Ajwain (Carom Seeds)
  • Garlic – 3 Clove Chopped
  • Ginger – Small Piece Chopped
  • Green Chili – 2 Finely Chopped
  • 1 Big Onion – Chopped
  • ½ tsp Red Chili Powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 3-4 tbsp Ghee
  • Oil for Shallow Frying

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, take wheat flour, besan (gram/chickpea flour), turmeric, hing, ajwain, garlic, ginger, green chili, onion, red chili powder, salt and 2 tbsp oil

  • Mix well; add water to knead the smooth and soft dough. Keep aside or in the refrigerator for 30 min.

  • Now take a medium sized ball dough, turn it into round ball
  • Roll out the ball like a roti/chapatti, put ghee on it and fold the chapati in triangle shape
  • Dust some wheat flour on the rolling board and roll out the dough from all the area to make the slightly thick triangle shape/prantha
  • Now place the dough/prantha on hot tawa and cook for a minute
  • Flip the prantha, when the base is slightly cooked and brush oil/ghee
  • Flip it again and brush oil/ghee on the other side too
  • Cook both sides on medium heat till prantha gets crispy and turns to light brown

Tips

  • To make this recipe more healthy, you can use multigrain flour (aata)
  • Kasuri methi can also be added to add more flavors to the recipe
  • Brush Ghee on Missi roti/prantha while serving
